SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
When bacon is hot and right out of the oven, you want to use it right away. But in this case, it's not going on a sandwich.
"It's a lot different," said Garrett Kortum. "I'll tell you that."
Burger King crumbles bacon strips and then puts them on a sundae.
"It would be comparably tasting to the salt in chocolate. So, it's kind of like a sweet and salty," said Jim Willems, director of operations for Siouxland Burger Kings.
About four months ago, Burger King rolled out plans for a new selection of summer treats. But the most radical was recently unveiled: the bacon sundae.
"We had sold several before ten o'clock. It's kind of like eating or having breakfast and dessert at the same time," said Willems.
Bill Brown brought his daughter, Maggie, to BK for an early meal.
"Breakfast of champions," said Bill Brown.
At first, Maggie was hesitant to try out the new sundae. Now, she says she'll probably have another.
"Bacon and chocolate and ice cream," said Maggie Brown. "It's really good."
Like many other customers, Garrett Kortum wasn't sure what to expect when he tried it for the first time.
"Just hard to think of the reaction of how good it tastes and how they put ice cream and bacon together," said Kortum.
In case you're wondering, it weighs in at 510 calories.
