After scoring an unearned run in the fourth inning, the RedHawks scored four more times in the fifth inning. Fargo started the fifth with three straight singles off of X's pitcher Richard Salazar, and a run scored after an error by Sioux City left fielder Yusuke Inoguchi to make it 2-0. Fargo had five hits in the inning.
Sioux City could only manage three hits through the first eight innings off of Fargo starting pitcher Paul Burnside, while committing three errors and hitting into four double plays. Salazar took the loss, giving up nine hits and five runs over seven innings.
The X's (16-16) will play the second game of the series on Tuesday night. Sioux City returns home on Thursday to start a four game series with first place Wichita.
