SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Fighting fires isn't an easy job, but Sioux City Fire Rescue is looking for some men and women who are up to the challenge.
Monday night, the fire department opened its doors to potential job seekers to explain what it takes to become a firefighter.
Sioux City's Fire Chief and other staff members outlined the unique duties of the squad, their schedules and the hiring process.
While physical strength is needed, so is stamina and coordination.
One important goal, getting more women and minorities involved in the department.
"This time around our focus has been on diversity. And what I mean by that is, we believe as a department and as a city, we can best serve our citizens if we reflect them," said Tom Everett, Sioux City Fire Chief.
Newly hired firefighters were also on hand to help answer questions about the testing experience.
One big change this year, you're not required to be an EMT to take the test.
Applications will be accepted from July 2nd through August 3rd. After that you're out of luck for a few years. The department only accepts applications every two years.
