NORFOLK, Neb. (KTIV) -
We're learning more about the hot air balloon incident Sunday morning near Norfolk, Nebraska that injured an elderly woman.
According to Christopher Amundson, president of Nebraska Airfest & 2012 State Fly-in, the woman was one of two passengers aboard the balloon piloted by a member of the Nebraska Balloon Club.
Amundson said it was one of seven balloons that lifted off at 6:30 a.m. during what pilots and passengers reported as light winds.
The balloons flew across Norfolk and into Pierce County for about 45 minutes, but the winds increased several hours sooner than originally forecast and got up to 14 mph, according to the pilot.
Upon touchdown in an alfalfa field, the gondola tipped and slid about 100 feet. The elderly woman received a broken ankle while the second passenger received skin abrasions. She is said to be in good condition. The pilot was not hurt.
