Hot, dry weather is concern for Siouxland farmers

Hot, dry weather is still the major concern for Siouxland farmers even though rain did fall in the last week.

The weekly crop report shows Corn has started to silk across much of the state.

The corn condition is 51-percent good and 16-percent excellent.

As for the soybeans, 50-percent are considered in good condition, with 11-percent in excellent shape.

Over in Nebraska, 55-percent of the corn is in good condition... with 7-percent rating excellent.

The soybeans are blooming in some areas.

The USDA report shows 55-percent are in good condition, and 6-percent in excellent shape.

And finally in South Dakota crops are ahead of schedule, corn had an average height of 18 inches, with 94 percent of the crop cultivated or sprayed once.

Soybeans were at 97 percent emerged, ahead of the five year average.
