OKOBOJI, Iowa (KTIV/KUOO) -
Barbecue and HAMs are the focus of two events this weekend. One involves food, the other radios.
HAM radio operators from Northwest Iowa will hold their annual field days this weekend at Horseshoe Bend County Park southwest of Milford.
It starts at noon Saturday and runs through Sunday.
The event is being hosted by the Iowa Great Lakes Amateur Radio Club, which will be putting on displays for the public showing how they can send messages in many forms without the use of phone systems, the Internet or other infrastructure that could be compromised during a crisis.
Barbecue aficionados will be flocking to Arnolds Park this Saturday for the annual "Smoke on The Water" barbecue contest and musicfest.
More than a dozen chefs will be competing in several different categories, including a people's choice division.
There will also be a panel of professional judges on hand.
Tickets for the public tasting, which begins at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, will be available on the site at Preservation Plaza.
