Wichita showed why they're the best team in the American Association, pounding the Sioux City Explorers 19-10 on Thursday night.
The Wingnuts (25-8) scored in each of the first four innings, getting two in the first, five in the second, two in the third and eight in the fourth to build a 17-2 lead.
X's starter Ty Marotz lasted two and two-thirds innings, giving up 14 hits and nine runs. Geno Glynn pitched one inning of relief, giving up eight more runs on five hits. Adrian Martinez did have three hits in his first four at-bats for Sioux City, with three RBI's.
The four game series continues with game two on Friday night at 7:05. Andrew Snowden will be the starting pitcher for the X's, who fell to 17-18 with the loss.
