A new Pew polls finds 69% of Americans in favor of tighter immigration
restrictions, while roughly that many in a Bloomberg survey backed
President Obama's new deportation policy that many call "amnesty for
illegals".
In Florida, where the Hispanic vote could make the difference, Mitt
Romney indicated Thursday he would end the week-old Obama version of the
"Dream Act".
"The answer is that I will put in place my own long-term solution that will replace and supersede
the President's temporary measure," Romney said.
He added he'd build more fence along the Mexican border, but invite
in the highly skilled foreign born and give out Green Cards with
diplomas.
"I will prioritize measures that strengthen legal immigration," Romney pledged.
Romney's earlier hard line on immigration helped him win primaries.

Romney hopes Latino voters will cross over to him because the economy trumps all else.
President Obama, meanwhile, focused on another issue Thursday.
He urged college loan rates not be allowed to rise July 1st.
"We've been stuck watching Congress play chicken with another deadline," the president complained.
Democrats believe there is no way Romney can now get the roughly 40%
of Latino vote experts calculate he needs to win Florida, Colorado and
Nevada.
