Matthew Rusch had a season-high ten strikeouts in Winnipeg's 3-2 win over Sioux City on Monday.

The Sioux City Explorers lost the opening game of their three game series in Winnipeg, 3-2, on Monday night. The loss dropped Sioux City to 18-21, while the Goldeyes improved to 22-15.
Winnipeg scored single runs in the first, second and fourth innings off of X's starting pitcher Alain Quijano to build a 3-0 lead. Quijano gave up three runs, four hits and struck out five in six innings of work. Goldeyes starter Matthew Rusch had a season-high 10 strikeouts.
Sioux City did not have a base runner until Ray Serrano singled with one out in the fifth inning. Newly acquired Peter Barrows got the X's on the board in the sixth. Barrows drove in Yusuke Inoguchi with a double to cut the Winnipeg lead to 3-1.
Brandon Newton got the X's to within a run at 3-2 with an RBI single to drive in Mike Bisenius in the eighth inning.
The series continues on Tuesday night in Winnipeg.
