SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
It's not a new business, but one of Sioux City's current industries that's expanding and putting the old Sioux City mail processing center on the tax rolls.
Consumers Supply sits directly across the street and has been eyeing the property since the postal service moved out last fall.
Officials say the property didn't go on the market until a month ago. The pet food maker jumped at the chance to purchase the building as part of their expansion plans.
"Our business seasonally strong for fall and winter so we're looking to move fairly quickly to get ahead of that," said company vice-president Dan Patee.
The company plans to use the facility to house the distribution arm of the business, allowing them to devote their current building to manufacturing.
They'll get a graduated tax rebate from the city, and in exchange, agree to a minimum two-million-dollar assessment of the former processing center.
