Construction crews look to beat the heat

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

It's hot and sticky outside, and all you want to do is find the air conditioning.  However, if your job keeps you outdoors, there's no escaping the dog days of summer.

Construction workers may be under the gun to get the job done before the seasons change.  However, even they have their limits.

Crews working around Tri-View Avenue on the I-29 project got to go home early Wednesday.

However, they say that doesn't happen often, and they have to find ways to beat the heat.

"If we get overheated,  you know we got plenty of water and Gatorade, our boss gives us, and if you feel like you're going to pass out, you get to that stage, our boss lets sit down and cool off," said Cass Borst, who is laying the overpass connecting Wesley Way to the Veterans Memorial Bridge.

Borst says they often get going early before the heat of the day sets in.
