K2 ban passes U.S. Senate

WASHINGTON, D.C (KTIV) -

Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa says his plan to ban chemicals used to make synthetic drugs like K2 or bath salts has passed the Senate.

The Senate gave final approval to the measure as part of a Food and Drug Administration bill, sending the measure to the President for his consideration and expected signature into law.

Grassley says the federal ban will prevent foreign manufacturers from getting their products into the United States in the first place.

The measure is named after an 18-year-old Iowan who took his life after using the drug.
