Sioux City narrows possible new casino sites

It's another complication in the process to take Sioux City's Casino ashore. The city will have to change the zoning ordinances to allow a land-based casino to be built in town. Tuesday afternoon, the city's Planning and Zoning Commission reviewed the latest draft that includes new rules allowing a casino only in a specific area from 8th Street to the Missouri River and Wesley Parkway to Floyd Boulevard. It still would need to be approved by the commission and the city council.

Morningside home damaged by afternoon fire

Fire investigators are trying to determine what sparked a blaze at a Sioux City home Tuesday afternoon. When crews arrived at the Morningside home, flames were coming through the windows and the roof. Fire officials say no one was home at the time of the fire. They say neighbors were able to rescue one dog, but another didn't make it out. The home is a total loss.

K2 ban passes U.S. Senate

Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa says his plan to ban chemicals used to make synthetic drugs like K2 or bath salts has passed the Senate. The Senate gave final approval to the measure as part of a Food and Drug Administration bill, sending the measure to the President for his consideration. He's expected to sign it into law.

Keeping pets cool in hot weather

Wednesday's temperatures could reach triple digits. Don't forget about your pets. If you have animals, experts say never leave them in a vehicle alone on hot day even with the windows rolled down. Always provide pets with enough shade. Keep your small animals indoors during the hottest periods of the day. Check their water dish often and never force your pets to exercise in the hot weather.
