SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Feeding those in need is important year round. And, a big donation from a Sioux City Casino will help the Food Bank of Siouxland do just that.
Argosy Casino donated $25,000.
It'll go to help the non-profit fill the void created when Iowa Governor Terry Branstad vetoed legislation that would have provided state funding for food banks.
The Food Bank of Siouxland's share of the allocation would have been $37,000.
So the Argosy stepped in to help out.
"When we talk about giving money away and touching lives and the influence it could have, certainly that's significant for us. I think everybody wants to understand where this money is going. Linda was very clear on where this money would be going and how it would help the Food Bank. So, we're delighted," said Lance George, Argosy Casino General Manager.
The Food Bank plans to use the money to buy a truck load of food, which will make a big difference for the 125 different agencies that receive it.
"To write this kind of check and allow you to purchase a truck-load of food is just enormous. It's just off the charts. I'm really almost at a loss for words to tell you how wonderful this will be and what a difference it's going to make for thousands of people," said Linda Scheid, Food Bank of Siouxland Executive Director.
The Food Bank most recently purchased a truck-load of food in February and May.
