Woodbury Co. ending anti-gang program

Posted:

Woodbury County is ending its 12-year-old anti-gang program.  That move by the board of supervisors this week comes after the death of Gang Prevention Specialist Leo Miller last month.

Miller was hired in 2000 to coordinate gang prevention training and to work with juveniles in custody.

The man who oversaw Miller's position says gangs are not the problems they were in the past.  Mark Olsen, who runs the county Juvenile Detention Center, points out that the Sioux City Police Department has a task force to monitor gang activity.
