Red Cross volunteers head to Colorado to help wildfire victims

NORFOLK, Neb. (KTIV/US92) -

As wildfires rage in Colorado, neighboring states have begun to help residents recover and some Siouxlanders are pitching in.

Early Thursday morning, Norfolk Area Red Cross Disaster Response Manager Nicole Boettger left for Loveland, Colorado as part of a group that will be volunteering in the recovery for residents affected by the massive wildfires there.

Boettger says she's part of a group of ten people that will be helping out.

She says the scope of the damage is so large in Colorado that she and many of the other disaster response personnel still don't know how they'll be expected to help out.

"There are 10 of us are going to drop off emergency response vehicles in Colorado. And once we get to Colorado, we will be assigned our jobs," said Nicole Boettger.

Red Cross officials say that anyone can help with the recovery.

They're urging anyone to text "REDCROSS" to the number 90999.

That will donate $10 to the recovery effort.
