NEAR SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa (KTIV/KUOO) -
It's going to cost more than first thought to revamp a city park in Spirit Lake.
The city council has awarded the low base bid of $566,801 from a Humboldt firm to upgrade Memorial Park.
The bid came in over the engineer's estimate of nearly $484,000.
The council also approved an alternate bid of $7,100 for an ice rink in the park.
Plans call for a new shelter house, children's play area, walking trails and a splash pad being donated by a local Kiwanis Club, among other amenities.
Construction is to start around July 9th with completion this coming December.
