SIOUX CITY (KTIV) -- -
With all the construction on Interstate 29, truckers need to watch their every move.
But, with a new travel center in Sioux City, truckers are getting a break.
And, the local economy is getting dozens of new jobs.
Imagine going to a place that offers two restaurants, premium coffee, and even hands out free mugs.
Add that to a newly paved lot and it's not a bad home away from home for truckers.
Jeff Willbanks, trucker, said, "You can see all the lines, there is no potholes. There is enough room to maneuver to back into a spot or pull out of a spot."
Truckers like Jeff are flocking to the new "Pilot Flying J" at the Singing Hills exit on Interstate 29. A perfect place for a truck stop.
"It's really nice, it's right in the middle between Omaha and Sioux Falls," claimed Jeff Willbanks.
This brand new venue has one, main focus: customer service.
Chuck Robinson, general manager, said "We just want to make sure that we provide a fast, friendly, clean service to them."
Those providing that service all have new jobs, 88 of them. Between the gas station, Subway, and "Moes", set to open in mid-July, all of them will be working under one roof.
"We actually own the Subway and the Moes and we have a great relationship with them. This is actually going to be our first "Moes Southwest Grill" so we're really excited about it," added Robinson.
Also excited, the semi-drivers. This 15th Iowa Pilot Flying J offers them seven brand new showers.
Wilbanks summed it up, "Pilot always has the cleanest showers around, great coffee, great excellent service and it's always clean facility. It's just great to have a new truck stop open right there."
The new facility is expected to contribute almost $4 million in state and local tax revenue, every year.
