Siouxland's fever could break by next week

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

Meteorologists say we may have to wait until next week to beat the heat. Hard news to hear if you're a Sioux City roofer.

Baking under the summer sun is just another day at the office for Larry Moyer and his crew of roofers. But even they sometimes can't take the heat.

"There are days that it is just unbearable," said roofer Larry Moyer.

Days like the last few, that have forced Moyer's crew to break often and guzzle water.

"I go through about six of these a day," said Moyer holding a bottle of water.

It's all caused by that high pressure ridge you've heard so much about. Further east it's produced heat fueled storms that have knocked out power to more than 1.5 million on the coast.

"We haven't power since Friday, you're telling me we have to wait an entire week," said Brian Carpenter a Takoma Park, Maryland resident.

Here in Siouxland, heat advisories seem to be a daily occurrence. It has local meteorologists warning warm weather shouldn't be taken lightly.

"It's really the heat indices that we are worried about. They can reach anywhere from 105 to 110 degrees," said KTIV Meteorologist Riley O'Connor.

Relief could be on the way, though. A dip in temps, maybe some rain are in the forecast as soon as the weekend.

Until then though, Moyer's crew knows the drill.

"Try and find the shade when we can, drinks lots of water," he said.
