SIOUX CITY (KTIV) -- -

The Sioux City Explorers opened a four game series against Gary-Southshore with a 4-3 win over the Railcats in ten innings on Tuesday. Brian Bistagne's sacrifice fly in the tenth brought home Wally Backman with the game-winning run. Backman had led off the tenth with a double. The largest crowd of the season, over 3,400, saw the dramatic win at Lewis and Clark Park. Gary suffered their seventh straight loss.

Sioux City scored first when first baseman Kris Sanchez hit a two-run homer in the second inning. The X's padded their lead in the third on a solo home run from Bistagne to make it 3-0. Gary scored solo runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to tie the game at 3-3.

X's starting pitcher Ty Marotz left with one out in the sixth. Marotz gave up three runs on six hits with four strikeouts and did not factor in the decision. Five relief pitchers followed Marotz into the game, with Chris Bodishbaugh getting the victory.

Game two of the series is Wednesday at 7:05. There will be fireworks after the game.
