Water emergency forces Hull, IA to conserve water

Keeping cool may be harder to do in Hull, Iowa where water is a precious commodity. Since June 26th, Hull residents have been under a "water emergency restriction." That means no unnecessary water use. The mild winter is partly to blame with less snow to replenish the city's wells. That "water emergency restriction" is in effect until further notice.

Changes in highway signs slow accident rate in Spencer

The Iowa Department of Transportation, along with the Spencer Police Department, are making changes to Highway 71. Two people have died in separate accidents in a construction zone on the highway. The Iowa DOT will add billboards and put up more signs along the 12-mile stretch of road that runs out of Spencer focusing on the Highway 18 and 71 intersection. Also, more police and state troopers will monitor the area.

Recycling company expansion upsets residents

Some aren't happy about an expansion plan in the works for a Siouxland business. Residents on Norfolk, Nebraska's south side have been pushing against Alter Metal Recycling's plans to build a scrap metal shredder near their neighborhood. The company's plans were unanimously approved Tuesday by the Norfolk Planning Commission. Residents next to the company raised concerns about the potential shredder's noise, pollution and safety issues to have the machine in the neighborhood.
