LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -

Two men who tried to create a large explosion with a pile of fireworks have been hospitalized in Nebraska.

A Lincoln tv station reports that the two men were rushed to the hospital Tuesday night after neighbors heard a loud boom that rattled their windows.

Fire officials say the men piled the fireworks together shortly after 10:30 p.m. in a backyard in Lincoln, in an effort to make a larger explosion. They suffered second- and third-degree burns.

The Bureau of Fire Prevention is investigating the incident.
