Gary-Southshore scored runs in all but two innings, snapping Sioux City's two-game winning streak with a 14 to 9 win Wednesday night at Lewis & Clark Park.
In his first appearance since June 17 Nick Schumacher labored, throwing 97 pitches through four innings of work while walking four and giving up seven runs. He was charged with the loss.
Schumacher missed his previous three starts due to elbow soreness.
RailCats pitcher Kyle Wilson struggled as well giving up five runs in just two innings of work.
In total, the two squads combined for nine pitchers in the nearly four-hour affair.
Offensively, Sioux City and Gary Southshore combined for 23 runs on 29 hits.
The X's were led by Ray Serrano who went 4-for-5 with two RBIs in the loss.
Yusuke Inoguchi finished the game 2-for-4, with an RBI and three runs scored.
Designated hitter Michael Coles did most of the damage for Gary-Southshore going 4-for-6, with four RBI and two runs scored.
The X's and RailCats will play again Thursday night at Lewis & Clark Park. First pitch is set for 7:05.
