Richard Salazar didn't give up a hit until the seventh inning and the Sioux City Explorers beat Gary, 4-2, on Thursday night.
Salazar retired 16 straight batters at one point before giving up a leadoff single in the seventh inning. The left-hander worked eight innings, giving up just three hits and one run, while striking out five. Chris Bodishbaugh worked the ninth inning to earn the save.
Sioux City was nursing a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning before scoring three more runs. Yusuke Inoguchi singles to drive home Brian Bistagne to give the X's a 2-0 lead. Two batters later, Kris Sanchez doubled to deep centerfield, bringing in Inoguchi and Ryan Priddy to give Sioux City a 4-0 lead.
Sioux City (21-25) will wrap up the four game series with the Railcats on Friday night at 7:05 at Lewis and Clark Park.
