SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
The Sioux City Fire Department has released the name of the man who died after a house fire early Thursday morning, and they've determined the cause of the fire.
The victim is identified as 41-year old Brian Marshall. His cause of death is listed as smoke inhalation.
Firefighters found Marshall lying on the floor inside the door of his home at 2908 Robinson Street. Smoke and flames were coming from a window when fire crews arrived on the scene at about 2 a.m.
Investigators say the fire was caused by faulty electrical wiring to a light fixture in the ceiling of one of the bedrooms. The fire spread through the ceiling insulation and to the structure itself.
Adding to the tragedy, investigators say there were several smoke alarms in the home, but none appeared to be working. The fire department is using this tragedy to again implore all residents to check your smoke alarms and make sure they are working
