Gary-Southshore scored seven runs in the first inning and went on to beat the Sioux City Explorers, 13-3, on Friday night. With the win, the Railcats earned a split of the four game series.
Gary sent 12 batters to the plate in the top of the first off of X's starter Jason Jarvis, who gave up 11 runs in less than four innings of work.
Sioux City did cut the lead to 7-2 when Kris Sanchez hit a two run home run in the bottom of the first. The Railcats countered by scoring runs in the second, fourth, sixth and seventh innings. Every hitter in the Gary lineup had at least one hit. The X's had ten hits, and four were doubles.
The X's (21-27) start a four game series in St. Paul on Saturday.
