Volunteers dedicate morning to restoring Grandview Park

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

Grandview Park was rocking for Sioux City's Saturday in the Park celebration, but come Sunday morning, the long process clean-up of rolled around.

Hundreds of tables, chairs, tents, grills and an enormous stage were waiting for the volunteers to start working.

Sixty-five volunteers came out, before 7 a.m. to start cleaning. Some of the volunteers spent Saturday enjoying the festivities at the park, but when it came time to restore the park the next morning, it was all business.

"Working efficiently is probably our most challenging aspect, you know.  Everybody has a project, as long as we all stay on that project, everything goes smoothly," said Mario Barajas, a volunteer.

Officials say it took about a week to get the park ready for the weekend festivities, but a matter of hours to get it torn down.

It took great focus to get everybody on the same page, but organizers say the hearts of the volunteers were in the right place.

"It says that they're proud of this community and they're willing to put in the time in order to take care of it and keep it neat and make it like we found it," said Mark Shechet, a member of the Sunday Site teardown committee.

Officials say the tear down at Grandview took about five hours to complete. Many of the volunteers say they'll come by next year to help clean up again.
