ST. PAUL, Minn. (KTIV) -
Tied 2-2 heading into the top of the ninth inning, Wally Backman raced home on a wild pitch to score the go-ahead run as Sioux City edged St. Paul with a 3-2 win Sunday afternoon at Midway Stadium.
Backman led the ninth off with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice from Tyler Goodro prior to scoring.
The Explorers were playing catch up most of the night.
The Saints struck first with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Sioux City answered with a run of its own on the top of the fifth.
St. Paul took a 2-1 lead in the sixth on Adam Frost's solo homerun.
Down 2-1 heading into the eighth Kris Sanchez tied the game with a RBI double.
Ty Marotz pitched six innings and struck out six for the X's. Eddie De La Cruz pitched an inning of relief, picking up his second win of the season.
Sioux City and St. Paul will play against Monday at 7:05.
