LE MARS, Iowa (KTIV) -

A Marcus, Iowa teenager remains hospitalized after the car she was driving was hit by a freight train over the weekend in Le Mars.  17-year-old Krystal Leach was listed in good condition Monday morning at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

She was flown there after the accident, which happened about 7:40 Saturday evening.  Police say Leach apparently cut in front of the train while turning left from Highway 75 onto 12th Street Southwest.  The train struck her car in the passenger side door, spinning the car around and knocking it into the crossing signal.

Leach was alone in the car.  Police say the warning lights and bells at the crossing were functioning.

Leach has been charged with Failure to Stop at a Railroad Crossing.
