SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
You'll find it piled high at produce stands, grocery stores and your local farmers market. Iowa's sweet corn crop is early this year because on the mild winter and spring.
Lawton farmers like the Riemenschneiders were able to plant their sweet corn in early April. They've had just enough rain during the recent heat wave to keep picking dozens of ears each day.
"If the frost got it, it was okay because we didn't plant too much early, but everything went as scheduled, and it was ready," said Lori Riemenschneider of Lawton, Iowa.
The Riemenschneiders have staggered their planting every couple of weeks this summer to ensure that they can continue to harvest throughout the season.
Lori Riemenschneider said if there continues to be little rain, yields will go down. But at this point, she believes they'll to have enough corn and vegetables to sell through September or early October, something they've done for the last 10 years.
