The Sioux City Explorers saw their brief two game winning streak come to an end with a 3-1 loss to St. Paul on Monday. The Saints scored two runs in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie.
Nick Schumacher (4-3) took the loss, giving up all three runs on five hits over six innings. The former Wayne State hurler had five strikeouts.
Sioux City out hit St. Paul, 7-5, but the Explorers stranded seven base runners. Wally Backman, Junior, was the only Sioux City player with two hits. Ryan Priddy scored the only run for the X's in the fifth inning. After a double, Priddy scored when the Saints committed an error off the bat of Brandon Newton.
The series ends on Tuesday at 7:05. The X's are off on Wednesday and start a four game series with Sioux Falls on Thursday at Lewis and Clark Park.
