SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
The recent Supreme Court ruling on the health care has hardly ended the debate over reform. Now, the AARP is taking the conversation from Congress to the community.
Federal spending on Medicare, alone, will reach $1-trillion in a decade. And, according to the AARP, it won't be long after that that the government won't have enough money to cover the growing number of seniors entering the program.
One of the common complaints is that lawmakers aren't listening to the people impacted by the proposed reforms. So, the AARP has been holding candid conversations with seniors across America... talking about the future of Medicare and Social Security. But, seniors surveyed say there is no easy solution. James Coon, 75-Years-Old, says "I'm sure that people are living longer and working longer, and there's less people paying into it. They're probably going to have to raise the age on it."
During the program, called "You've Earned a Say" seniors were given handheld devices to weigh in on the current state of the health care system. The results were used for an engaging discussion later on.
