A merger may be in the works for American Airlines, the lone carrier at Sioux Gateway Airport. American filed for bankruptcy reorganization seven months ago. Since then, U-S Airways has been pushing hard for a merger. American's CEO says its creditors will reach out to "interested parties." He says the airline's strong financial performance and tentative agreements with the pilots and transport workers unions set the stage to explore other opportunities.
Siouxland seniors weigh in on the health care debate. At a program in Sioux City Tuesday called "You've Earned a Say," several folks used hand-held devices to chime in with the American Association of Retired Persons, or AARP. The group has been holding candid conversations with seniors across America talking about the future of Medicare and Social Security. AARP says the government won't have enough money to cover the growing number of seniors entering the Medicare program.

Eighty kids will get a chance to learn the backstroke and butterfly thanks to the legacy of a Siouxland man. The Rich Burton Memorial fund will allow kids from the Crittenton's Stella Sanford Child Development Center to take swim lessons twice a week for four weeks for free. Siouxland Aquatics lost grant funding last year and couldn't provide the lessons, but now teachers and kids are back in the pool.
