We may soon get some answers about the future of Sioux City's Argosy Casino. The Argosy is on the agenda of the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission which meets at 8:30 Thursday morning in Altoona. The panel will be asked to approve an extension of the contract between Argosy's owner, Penn National, and Missouri River Historical Development, which holds its gambling license.
A new ranking by CNBC puts all three Siouxland states in the top 20 when it comes to business. Nebraska ranks sixth on the list, South Dakota seventh, and Iowa places 12th. In the study, the states get good marks for business friendliness, cost of business, and economy. Texas ranks number one on the list.
The "now hiring" sign is up at Alorica. The North Sioux City, South Dakota call center says it is hiring more than 150 new employees. Company officials say the expansion is in the wake of increased work demand from their client. Alorica currently employs 800 people in North Sioux City.
Funding has come through to repair the boat ramps in South Sioux City, Nebraska after last summer's flood. The ramps have been closed while awaiting approval from FEMA. Officials say, after many hurdles, they now have the funding. The project will cost $300,000 and should be completed this fall.
