The Sioux City Explorers lost to the Sioux Falls Pheasants for the second straight night, 7-3, on Friday night. The X's fall to 24-30 on the season.
Christian Guerrero hit a three-run homer in the top of the first inning to take over the league lead with his 14th long ball of the season. The shot came off of X's starter Alain Quijano, who fell to 2-4 with the loss. The Pheasants added two more runs in the second to take a 5-0 lead.
After cutting the lead to 5-1 in the third, Sioux City loaded the bases with nobody out but could not score. The Explorers left 15 runners on base and had runners on base in every inning except the ninth. Sioux City got as close as 5-3 after scoring a pair of runs in the fifth inning.
Left fielder Peter Barrows did have three hits and drove in a run for Sioux City.
Game three of the four game series is Saturday night at 7:05 at Lewis and Clark Park.
