SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Eager buyers lined up in mass at a storage facility in Sioux City early Saturday morning. Two abandoned storage units were put up for public auction, based on the style of a popular cable show.
Each was opened for quick evaluations, before being auctioned off. Veteran buyers say it's challenging to only get to look at the surface, before bidding, but sometimes that has the best rewards.
"The more goods that are in it, seems like the better they usually are. The first one had a lot of furniture in it, so the second one had a lot more goods, lot of boxes that we can try to go through and try to find some treasures," said Joseph Clevenger of Jefferson, S.D.
The two units had been left behind for more than four months. The winning bidder is responsible for cleaning out the unit and taking care of all its contents before Sunday night.
"More and more storage unit facilities are doing it this way because it can bring the best value of it and you don't know what's inside these units," said McFarland.
The first storage unit sold for $100. The other went for $475.
