UPDATE: Storm Lake drowning blamed on heart attack

Posted:
STORM LAKE, Iowa (KTIV) -

Authorities say a 64-year-old man likely suffered a fatal heart attack before falling into Storm Lake in northwest Iowa.

Radio station KICD reports that preliminary autopsy results show Steve McCullough, of Storm Lake, didn't have any water in his lungs, which rules out drowning as the cause his death on July 13.

According to the Buena Vista County Sheriff's office, McCullough had the heart attack and apparently stood up, moved to the side of the boat and then fell in.

A 911 caller had told authorities that McCullough was unconscious in the water and did not appear to be breathing.
