Gehlen Catholic lost their first round game at the state softball tournament, 6-1.

Charter Oak-Ute beat Newell-Fonda, 4-3, in a first round Class 1A state softball tournament game on Monday. The Bobcats avenged a 10-1 loss to the Mustangs back in June.
Charter Oak-Ute sophomore Ashley Goslar had an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning to break a 3-3 tie as the Bobcats improved to 28-12. Charter Oak-Ute will play third-ranked Martensdale-St. Marys in the semifinals on Thursday at 11:00 AM.
Newell-Fonda tied the game in the sixth inning with a home run by pitcher Jenna Falline, but leadoff Renee Maneman was caught stealing third base in the bottom of the seventh inning, ending their scoring threat. Newell-Fonda will face Gehlen Catholic in the consolation round on Wednesday at 10:00 AM.

Gehlen Catholic's first game at the state softball tournament has ended with a loss. The Jays were held to six hits in a 6-1 loss to third-ranked Martensdale-St. Marys in a Class 1A first round game.
Hailey Sweet and Nicole Shutt both drove in one run and scored another in the first inning as Gehlen fell behind 3-0 after one inning.
Gehlen catcher Lisa Gunter hit a solo home run in the fourth inning for the Jays' only run.
Martensdale-St. Marys improved to 39-2, while Gehlen falls to 24-11. The Jays will play #4 Newell-Fonda in a consolation game on Wednesday at 10:00 AM.
