SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
With the future of Sioux City's Argosy Casino in question, a meeting in downtown Sioux City Monday night may work up one half of the solution.
Keeping the Argosy open all depends on members of Missouri River Historical Development, the non-profit license holder, and Penn National Gaming, its operator, agreeing.
They both need to say yes to an extension of their operating contract.
Last week, the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission approved an extension lasting until March of 2013. The commission said the two had until August 23rd to agree to it.
If not, the Argosy could close, putting 325 out of work. At the meeting, MRHD representatives tentatively said they would. But Penn refused.
Even so, MRHD is expected to draft an extension Monday night. They'd then send it, signed, to Penn for their approval.
But, besides the Argosy, we may also find out the future of the nonprofit. Reps. have told us, in this meeting, they'll discuss reaching out to other casino operators.
Possibly, making a bid for that new gaming license up for grabs.
