IRETON, Iowa (KTIV) -
Police arrested a Wisconsin man they think is responsible for at least 25 burglaries in Iowa and Minnesota. Many of those burglaries took place in Northwest Iowa during the past month.
Daniel Joseph Detaege, 49, of Appleton, Wisconsin faces several charges of burglary, theft and criminal mischief.
In the early morning hours on Sunday, 15th, a Hawarden police officer on patrol in Ireton, Iowa noticed glass broken out of the door at the CO-OP in Ireton, Iowa. He then discovered Detaege was still inside the office.
After officers surrounded the building, Detaege surrendered.
Besides a large amount of cash inside his vehicle, police say they found a map of Iowa that had several communities and routes highlighted.
Authorities believe Detaege is responsible for burglaries in Ireton, Alton, Granville, Sioux Center and Hull, as well as others in Lyon, O'Brien, Osceola and Cherokee counties.
