MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa (AP) -
Gov. Terry Branstad plans to hold a public meeting to discuss the impact of the dry and drought conditions that are hurting Iowa's corn and soybean crops.
Branstad and representatives of state and federal agencies plan to meet for two hours with farmers and other residents Tuesday morning at Mount Pleasant High School.
The governor's office says the discussion will include the latest information about the drought and how state and federal agencies are responding.
Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey said Monday that the latest federal statistics show dry weather and high temperatures are causing corn and soybeans across Iowa to deteriorate, with less than 40% of them classified as being in good to excellent condition.
Iowa is the nation's top producer of corn and soybeans.
