Larissa Uhl fires a pitch during Bishop Heelan's 3-0 loss to Dallas Center-Grimes on Tuesday.
FORT DODGE, IA (KTIV) -- -
Bishop Heelan was knocked into the loser's bracket at the Class 4A state softball tournament after a 3-0 loss to second-ranked Dallas Center-Grimes.
Fillies pitcher Paige Lowary hit two homers to drive in all three runs, and threw a one-hitter against the Crusaders, who have never won a first round game at state.
Lowary hit a solo homer in the second inning off of Heelan pitcher Larissa Uhl and added a two-run shot in the third.
"Maybe just a little bit too much Paige Lowary today," said Bishop Heelan head coach Todd Vlaanderen. "Obviously she did a great job on the mound, only giving up one hit to us. I liked the fact that we got some good hacks at her. We just couldn't put a couple hits together. Obviously she did the job offensively for them. I know two things, the sun's going to come up tomorrow and we're not probably going to see as good a pitcher tomorrow as we saw today. All in all, I can't fault my kids effort. They did a great job. They played hard and that's all we could ask."
Heelan will play in the consolation round at noon on Wednesday against third-ranked Carlisle, who lost to Washington 5-2 in another first round game.
