Organizer hopes "cultural center" will inspire local artists

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

Downtown Sioux City could become the home of a new cultural center.

The promoter and director of Van Guard Arts is trying to gauge interest for his proposal. He's already got a location at 421 Pierce Street. Brent Stockton's vision is to combine visual and performing arts in one location to inspire local artists and customers. That includes paintings, sculpture... even music. "We're hoping by creating kind of a home or one central hub, which doesn't exist right now in Sioux City, we're hoping by creating that, we'll be able to bring all those folks together and I think it could be a really cool energy," said Brent Stockton, Van Guard Arts Director.

Stockton wants a cultural center that would bring young and older artist together, and operate in hours that would extend beyond what the Sioux City Art Center and other venues do.
