Lawton-Bronson poses for pictures following its 4-1 win in the substate final.
REMSEN, Iowa (KTIV) -
Matt Skinner pitched five and a third innings of one run baseball as Lawton-Bronson advanced to the 1A state baseball tournament with a 4-1 win over Remsen St. Mary's.
With one out in the sixth, the Hawks Brady Harpenau made it a three run game with an RBI single. Matt Smith came on in relief of Skinner and worked out of a bases-loaded jam.
In the bottom of the seventh, Smith struck out Matt Wesselmann to end the game.
"It's been three years in a row at substate and it's finally -- we finally made it," Skinner said. "Got knocked off twice in substate my sophomore and junior year and this really feels good, third year, to come back as a senior and win it and get there."
The Eagles will open up tournament play Monday, July 23, against Lisbon at 6 p.m.
