A rude awakening Tuesday night for a homeowner in Dakota City, Nebraska. A stolen pickup truck crashed right into the house and caved in part of a bedroom wall. Nobody in the house was hurt, but police arrested the driver of the stolen truck took the driver to the hospital. Sheriff's officials say there had been no police pursuit before the crash; the driver just lost control. They suspect alcohol was a factor.
Siouxlanders weigh-in on the new Port Neal interchange planned on I-29 north of Salix, Iowa. The Iowa Department of Transportation solicited public input at a meeting Tuesday night. The drought is proving to be a double-whammy for many Siouxland lawn care services. Sid Mosher of Mosher Landscaping says when the grass doesn't grow, they don't mow. He says business is down sharply this summer and that's after a mild winter when the snow removal part of his business also suffered. Mosher says when you make a living based on Mother Nature, you learn to roll with it.
A local man wants to bring a cultural center to downtown Sioux City. Brent Stockton's vision is to combine visual and performing arts in one location to inspire local artists and customers. It would include paintings, sculptures, and music. It would be open beyond what the Sioux City Art Center and other venues do. The cultural center would be located at 421 Pierce Street. Stockton is gauging interest for his proposal.
