Wastewater spill investigated near Storm Lake

Posted:
STORM LAKE, Iowa (KTIV) -

Crews in Storm Lake, Iowa are working to stop a leak that caused untreated wastewater to spill.  Authorities say it happened in the 200 block of Casino Road, on the west side of Storm Lake.  They believe the leak is in a septic system connection with one of the mains.

Crews used sand bags to stop the wastewater from reaching the lake itself, but they're only about six feet from the lakeshore so they expect some seepage.

The Iowa DNR recommends people with private docks in the immediate area stay out of the water for 48 hours after the cleanup is complete.
