James Vandenberg drops back to pass against Nebraska.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Nebraska's Taylor Martinez and Iowa's James Vandenberg are two of the 34 quarterbacks that have been named to the Davey O'Brien Award watch list.
The Davey O'Brien Award annually recognizes the top quarterback in college football.
A dual-threat quarterback, Martinez threw for 2,089 yards and 13 scores and rushed for 814 yards and nine touchdowns while leading the Big Red to a 9-4 mark in their first season in the Big Ten Conference.
Starting all 13 games for Nebraska, Martinez completed 56 percent of his passes and also threw 8 interceptions.
For Iowa, Vandenberg threw for 3,022 yards and 25 touchdowns, while leading the Hawkeyes to a 7-6 mark during the 2011-2012 campaign.
Vandenberg was one of the best signal callers in the Big Ten last year, ranking third in passing yards per game, fourth in total offense and fifth in pass efficiency.
The Davey O'Brien Winner will be announced on December 6.
Ohio State's Braxton Miller and Michigan's Dennard Robinson are also on the Davey O'Brien watch list.
