Bishop Heelan winless at state; Gehlen Catholic, Newell-Fonda & Emmetsburg pick up wins

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

In their fourth straight appearance at the state softball tournament, the Bishop Heelan softball went without a win.

After falling 3-0 to Dallas Center-Grimes in the opening round on Tuesday, the Crusaders were blanked again by Carlisle, 11-0, before falling 5-4 to West Delaware on Wednesday.  Bishop Heelan finishes 8th at this year's tournament.

In Class 2A, after falling 4-1 to Denver, Emmetsburg rallied to defeat Wayne 2-1 to finish 7th.

In 1A, Gehlen Catholic defeated Newell-Fonda 2-0 before falling to Marquette Catholic 4-2.  The Jays finish 6th in their first trip to the state tournament.

Newell-Fonda defeated Mason City Newman Catholic 6-1 to take home 7th.
