Charter Oak-Ute was edged by Martensdale-St. Marys, 2-1 in eight innings in a Class 1A semifinal game at the state softball tournament on Thursday. Freshman Kylah Schumacher scored the winning run on Hailey Sweet's bunt in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Charter Oak-Ute had seven hits against Blue Devil pitcher Emma Michels. Nicole Dobernecker homered for the Bobcats' only run in the fourth inning. She has hit a state-best 20 this season, which ranks fourth best on the Iowa's all-time record book.
Tenth-ranked Charter Oak-Ute will now play sixth-ranked Don Bosco in the Class 1A runner-up game at 9:30 AM on Friday.
