South Sioux City mom accused of knowing kids were sexually abused and doing nothing about it

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb (KTIV) -

A South Sioux City, Nebraska, woman has pleaded no contest to a charge of child abuse after police say she knew her children were being sexually abused, and did nothing to protect them.

The woman, who we're not identifying to protect the children, was originally charged with three counts of child abuse.

But as part of a plea agreement, prosecutors will drop two of the charges.

Court documents say one of the children told her she was being abused by her grandfather.

He's the same man, who was sentenced on Monday to 24-years in prison for molesting the same children.

The woman told police she felt "powerless" to do anything because that 58-year-old man was paying the bills.

Police also say she allowed her children to be in a home with a known sex offender, a different man than the one police allege was abusing the woman's children.

The woman will be sentenced on August 20th.
